DVR refers to Digital Video Recorder. This software is a set of computer programs and applications that help a PC to identify a Digital Video Recorder card installed in it. This software works in conjunction with the DVR card. DVR software has its application in many areas such as logistics, television, surveillance and monitoring. It is also used to edit television series, recording movies, as well as skipping commercials. DVR software stores the footage or images in digital mode. It helps in storing and retrieving data.When installed in a computer, it is easy to upgrade the software and enhance performance.

1. MythTV It is a Linux application which converts a computer using the necessary hardware into a Home Theater Personal Computer, a Digital Multimedia Home Entertainment System, or a Digital video recorder. MythTV is licensed under General Public License and is a free software. This software can be considered an alternative to Windows Media Center. This software is very useful in pausing, skipping and rewinding live television shows. MythTV administers and supports different system functions through a web browser interface. 2. EyeTV Macintoshs EyeTV is another excellent television recording and viewing software available. The latest version of the EyeTV software, Elgato's EyeTV 2.0, is among the best softwares available for this purpose. This software has received many more than average starring reviews for its easy application for TiVo-like Digital Video Recorder functionality, and integration in the Mac platform. Version 2.4.1 of EyeTV retails for USD 79. It can be purchased both in isolation for its application with separate hardware, or otherwise. There are other software /hardware combo packages are also available like Plextor, ATI, Elgato, TerrTec etc.

3. GB-PVR GB-PVR is an application associated with a home media center. It allows you to watch television using a remote, videos or DVDs, as well as recording and listening to music, along with viewing photos. It supports open interfaces. However, it is important to note that the core code engines are not available publicly. You can develop your own plugin to espand GB PVR. Many examples are available that can help you start the Plugin. The plugin can be developed using V.B.NET , C# or C++
